Spruce Up the Yard for Dad, Says Western Star Bay Area and Sacramento Nursery

Monday, January 30th, 2012

Sunol, CA (Vocus/PRWEB) June 04, 2011

For many dads, the yard is their pride and joy. Its where they want to spend the summer, barbecuing and lounging around with friends and family. So what better way to show Dad how much he means to the family than helping him perfect the yard? Western Star Wholesale Plant Nursery, located in Sacramento and the Bay Area community of Sunol, has trees, shrubs, perennials and roses that make yard beautification a breeze.

Spruce up the yard for Dad’s special day. Hundreds of varieties of trees and shrubs are available now, many at significant savings. says Western Star owner Sally Painter. Beautify your yard now to enjoy it all summer long. Imagine how much your family will enjoy afternoon BBQs and backyard fun! (

Western Star has a few suggestions for Bay area and Sacramento landscape design, including trees that will add shady spots and beauty to any yard. Acer rubrum Armstrong is a narrow red maple that is ideal for tight spots. It is a great shade tree, and its vibrant red leaves in autumn make it stand out. Liquidambar rotundiloba is a sweet gum tree with rounded leaves. It is easy to care for, and unlike other sweet gums, it doesnt leave seed balls all over the ground.

Shrubs can be used to cover unsightly areas, direct the flow of the yard, and tie everything together. Western Star recommends Agapanthus africanus Peter Pan, a Dwarf Lily of the Nile variety with showy blue flowers that is perfect for lining a walk or in a planter by a pool. Berberis thunbergii Rose Glow is a Japanese Barberry shrub with brilliant red foliage. Its leaf structure makes it an ideal hedge or barrier, and its berries attract birds. The wholesale nursery in the Bay Area also has a selection of standard and dwarf Phormium (New Zealand flax) varieties, including Amazing Red, Tom Thumb, and Maori Queen. This spiky-leaved plant adds a firework of spectacular foliage color to any yard.

Many people give bouquets of flowers for Fathers Day; why not give garden flowers that will live on and on instead? Western Star loves salvias, which are easy to grow and beautiful to behold. They recommend Salvia microphylla Hot Lips, a red and white flower mix, and Salvia greggii ‘Red’; both are stunning all summer long. They also suggest planting Gaura lindheimeri Siskiyou Pink, which has pink flowers shaped like butterflies.

To complete the look of the yard, Western Star says to plant some roses in Dads honor. Rosa Bonica has small pink flowers with a delicate scent. Rosa meidiland Red is an excellent ground cover rose with red flowers. Western Star also carries assorted rose trees.

Western Star Bay Area and Sacramento Nursery Celebrates Independence Day with Red, White and Blue Perennials

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

Sunol, CA (Vocus/PRWEB) July 02, 2011

The long holiday weekend is here, and in honor of the occasion, Western Star Wholesale Plant Nursery, located in Sacramento and the Bay Area community of Sunol, is featuring some new arrivals that make a beautiful way to celebrate the Independence Day: perennial plants in red, white and blue.

Its Fourth of July weekend, time to celebrate with a backyard party for friends and family, says Western Star owner Sally Painter. Why not spice up your outdoor events with some red, white and blue perennials?

Sedum ‘Dragons Blood’ is a hearty and easy-to-grow ground cover with brilliant red flowers that become more vibrant with more sunlight. Dragons Blood can tolerate extreme temperatures and poor soil quality, and looks great as a ground cover, between stepping stones, or in outdoor pots.

Chrysanthemum maximum Esther Read is one of Western Stars favorite flowers. These white double Shasta daisies are a traditional border plant in British gardens, and theyre one tradition Americans dont feel the need to rebel against. Esther Read is a great addition to the garden because its flowers are perfect for cutting for a bouquet, and also attractive to butterflies.

Felicia amelloides is a South African bush featuring bright blue flowers with yellow centers. This blue daisy is ideal for Bay Area and Sacramento landscape design, as it does well in rocky soil with good drainage, and prefers sun. Depending on the gardening style, Felicia amelloides can take on a rangy, windswept dune look or a compact, bushy hedge look.

In addition to the red, white and blue flowers, the Sacramento and Bay Area wholesale nursery is featuring several other perennials that are perfect for summer planting. Asteriscus maritimus Gold Coin is a hearty Mediterranean groundcover with lovely yellow flowers. Geranium x cantabrigiense ‘Biokovo’ is a hybrid featuring five-petaled pinkish-white flowers. Perovskia atriplicifolia Russian Sage is a semi-woody plant with spires of small blue flowers and a pungent smell. The brachyscome hybrid New Amethyst is a fragrant purple daisy with yellow centers that does especially well in containers. Lavandula angustifolia ‘Hidcote,’ also known as English Lavender, is an herb garden must-have used for essential oils and perfumes, cooking, and sachets.

Bay Area Plastic Surgeon on Cosmetic Surgery for the Ages: Feeling Confident in Ones 20s

Friday, January 20th, 2012

Palo Alto, CA (PRWEB) January 19, 2012

Board-certified Bay Area plastic surgeon Dr. Lauren Greenberg is announcing a new series of cosmetic surgery tips for the ages, highlighting which aesthetic enhancements can achieve the most effective results at various age groups. An avid blogger, Dr. Greenberg will focus on how to feel confident and look ones best during their twenties by enhancing certain features through surgical, non-invasive, and skin care treatments. She suggests several tips for reducing the signs of aging later in life including proper skin care and preventative surgery to take advantage of skins youthful resilience.

In addition to taking care of ones skin through daily routines of facial products and protective sunscreen, Dr. Greenberg says limiting alcohol and tobacco can help keep skin youthful and vibrant, as the two substances speed up the physical signs of aging on skin. She also adds that eating foods that are high in antioxidants will rejuvenate and refresh skin tone and prevent damage to ones complexion. Also, while many patients look to cosmetic procedures to enhance their appearance and defend against wrinkles and fine lines, Dr. Greenberg says non-surgical treatments such as chemical peels, dermal fillers, and BOTOX? Cosmetic are not preventative and need only be used in certain cases, for example if a patient has a single, deep facial line.

BOTOX? is not a preventative measure. Patients are being told that it is and they are basically wasting their money. There are wiser places to spend the money that will provide the increased confidence and satisfaction patients want.

For patients looking to make more significant changes to their appearance by toning their figure and eliminating loose skin, Dr. Greenberg says liposuction can be used for a pre-mommy makeover. Because skin tone in the twenties is still durable and elastic, she says patients can achieve more pronounced and effective results than they might after skin has lost some of its vitality due to pregnancy or age-related sagging. Dr. Greenberg adds that undergoing a mommy makeover procedure either before or after pregnancy can help women enjoy the wonders of motherhood while still feeling confident about their bodies.

The traditional mommy makeover combines procedures such as the tummy tuck and breast augmentation to address the areas commonly affected by pregnancy and child birth. I recommend liposuction for a pre-mommy makeover because fat pockets dont change.

Dr. Greenberg also says preemptive measures such as liposuction, a procedure often associated with mommy makeovers, can utilize the durability and vitality of young skin to preserve ones youthful appearance for the future. A patient in their twenties considering liposuction can take advantage of the youthful, elastic state of their skin and improve the overall aesthetic outcome. While it may not be essential, liposuction as a preventative measure can help a patient address areas that bother them now while their ability to bounce back is greater.

As with all cosmetic enhancements, Dr. Greenberg urges patients to consult with a board-certified, experienced plastic surgeon and a dedicated staff before undergoing any procedure. She says that through partnership with a passionate plastic surgery practice, patients can achieve the highest quality results and a positive experience.

About the Cosmetic Surgery for the Ages Series

Because every chapter of life welcomes new opportunities and new challenges, Dr. Greenberg has sponsored a series of plastic surgery tips intended to point patients in the right direction of the procedures that match their needs. She will be running several releases to spotlight various age groups and the treatments that can yield the most effective results at those stages of life.
